Everything you do burns calories.  An average person weighing 155 pounds will burn the following calories after one hour of the following activities:

Walking up stairs   562         Washing the car    316       Grocery shopping   246

Pushing a stroller   176         Vacuuming          176         Desk work            127

Sitting in a mtg       105         Reading                91        Watching TV          70

A calorie is simply a measuremnt of energy.  To maintain weight you must balance the calories you eat against the calories you use through physical activity.    Your body burns about 60% of its daily calories just to stay alive through basal metabolism.  An additional 10% of calories digest food and the remaining calories will either fuel activity or be stored as fat.   So keep on moving!
